Class Description:

Students will examine movies in light of a Christian worldview with particular attention to how hope is expressed by different worldviews such as naturalism, pantheism, and Christian theism. Students will identify the movie maker’s use of storytelling and worldview by viewing movies, participating in class discussion, presenting to their classmates, and making their own short film.

Class Description:

We are all born creative! I LOVE how children create with abandon—it brings me so much joy to witness. In this class I want to give them more tools, skills, and experiences to grow their art. We will cultivate our hearts for art with step-by-step drawing lessons, by learning the foundational drawing elements, and learning art vocabulary such as shading, hue, dimension, and perspective through art projects. We will study and emulate great artists as well as illustrators from some beloved childhood books. We’ll use different mediums throughout the year—pencil, watercolors, tempera paint, acrylic paint, pastels, and clay. The class will be a good mix of drawing and art projects. Creativity will abound!

Class Description:

We will be creating, creating, creating in this class—everything from foundational drawing skills to sculptures. We will study and emulate some great artists including (but not limited to) Monet, O’Keefe, Degas, and Pollock. Through the great artist studies and other lessons, we will dive into different genres of art as well as different mediums such as pencil, watercolors, acrylic paint, and clay. There will also be some FUN projects interspersed throughout the year—think fabric dyeing, sculptures, and sublimation. We will have fun in this class while expanding and exploring our creativity!

Class Description:

I like to think of this as “living room” style theater, laid back and maybe just a small step up from the productions we used to put on in the entryway of our house as kids. Students will learn theater basics such as vocal warm ups, improvisation, simple set and costume design, line memorization, and have the opportunity to perform with an ensemble cast. We will use Playing with Plays for our scripts and plan to have a performance in the spring (performance date TBD).

Class Description:

Art is everywhere and in everything we do. I know we have some incredibly talented kids at BVC, and I can’t wait to explore art with them and open our eyes to the art all around us. We will start with foundational drawing skills and quickly move into projects and different mediums through studies on famous artists such as (but not limited to) Monet, O’Keefe, Degas, and Pollock. We will dabble with watercolors, pastels, acrylic paint, and clay. We’ll also do some silly art exercises like drawing without looking! There will also be some fun projects throughout the year—think fabric dyeing, sculptures, and sublimation. Our artistic skills will reach new heights in this class!
