 Class Description:

Did you know…Learning phonics only covers half of our language, the English half. The other half? Well, it is a whole new set of root words, spelling, and pronunciation patterns that are based on Latin. And, starting in about 3rd to 5th grade, students encounter the Latin half of our language, which, if you have a base knowledge of Latin, makes it a lot easier! After all, half of our English vocabulary is made up of Latin words and roots.

For example, your child has learned the English word for father, but then as they progress through school they learn a whole new set of words: 3-5 syllable, difficult, abstract words that come from the Latin word for father, pater, patris. How do we prepare students for these words? Teach them a basic understanding of Latin!

Latin builds a larger vocabulary.Latin is the most efficient way to learn English grammar.Latin is a language that is the root words for all the modern sciences.Latin is the language found in law, government, logic, and theology. 

Learning Latin helps students excel in all their other subjects!

And Song School Latin is a gentle and delightful introduction to Latin. Students will learn over 100 everyday Latin vocabulary words for the seasons, body parts, food, animals, and common greetings. Having taught Latin basics to all my children, I have seen how the introduction to Latin is incredibly helpful as they use these foundations to learn English vocabulary and spelling that lasts well into high school. It is a key component of classical education and is fun, too!

Class Description:My hope for this Spanish class is to introduce Spanish language to students starting with basic level knowledge, grammatical rules and with an emphasis in phonetics. Spanish pronunciation can be a challenge, so there will be unit study focuses on new phonetic sounds. During the later part of this course, students will be introduced to conjugation of verbs so that they can be prepared for future upper level courses.

In this interactive introduction to Spanish, we will use picture flash cards to start speaking simple concepts and building full sentences immediately.

Complete with games, songs, and bilingual picture books, we’ll have fun building connections to a new language!
