Class Description:

Welcome to Fitness Foundations! This interactive course is specially designed to encourage children to steward their bodies as gifts from God, honoring Him through active living and healthy choices. Your student will explore different aspects of fitness, including cardiovascular health, strength and flexibility, coordination, balance, and agility. Through age-appropriate exercises and games, they will develop fundamental movement skills while improving their physical fitness levels. The goal is to instill a lifelong love for physical activity in kids while teaching them valuable skills that they can carry with them into adolescence and beyond, all while having FUN!

***The supply/materials fee will be lower in future years as I am building our equipment inventory from scratch!***

Class Description:

We will be creating, creating, creating in this class—everything from foundational drawing skills to sculptures. We will study and emulate some great artists including (but not limited to) Monet, O’Keefe, Degas, and Pollock. Through the great artist studies and other lessons, we will dive into different genres of art as well as different mediums such as pencil, watercolors, acrylic paint, and clay. There will also be some FUN projects interspersed throughout the year—think fabric dyeing, sculptures, and sublimation. We will have fun in this class while expanding and exploring our creativity!

Class Description:

Bread is such an important part of our lives, and God has given us an endless variety of types and creative ways to make it! There’s soft pillowy sandwich bread, homemade tortillas, crispy chewy pizza dough, pretzels, challah, bagels, and cinnamon rolls, just to name a few. In this class, we are going to explore all the how-to’s of making these and other delicious breads. We’ll be learning how to measure ingredients, proof dough, shape it, and many other secrets to take your homemade bread to the next level of scrumptious. This will be a fun and yummy time for all!

Class Description:

I like to think of this as “living room” style theater, laid back and maybe just a small step up from the productions we used to put on in the entryway of our house as kids. Students will learn theater basics such as vocal warm ups, improvisation, simple set and costume design, line memorization, and have the opportunity to perform with an ensemble cast. We will use Playing with Plays for our scripts and plan to have a performance in the spring (performance date TBD).

We will learn posture, chords, fingering, strumming patterns, time signatures, and some ear training. Students will learn songs from a variety of genres, including folk songs, hymns, worship songs, Christmas selections, and standards from the Great American Songbook.

Class Description:

Biology in Basketball? Physics in Ping Pong? Chemistry in Football? We see sports everywhere around us, in many different forms, but do we see the science behind them? We will look at why (and how) sprinters hold their breaths for their entire race. We will answer why divers would rather dive into a bubbly pool than a calm one. Why do baseballs leave the bat going faster than it was thrown on most home runs? All these questions and more will be answered as we view the sports we play (and some we don’t) through the lens of the sciences.

Class Description:

Join us as we delve into the world of literature. Throughout the class, we will tackle a variety of fiction and creative non-fiction titles and discuss the broader concerns of the ongoing literary conversation. Students will also have the opportunity to write their own stories. The class will consist of readings, lectures, discussions, and writing workshops. Homework each week will include reading and writing assignments.
